Welcome to The Shepherd’s Table Clothes Closet is our way of addressing another basic human need among Silver Spring’s poor. Offering warm, gently-used clothing isn’t just a matter of providing an essential service; it’s a matter of dignity for our clients. That’s why we welcome those who cannot afford to buy expensive retail clothing into a clean, friendly environment and offer them a chance to choose a wardrobe for themselves and their families. The Clothes Closet is open to shoppers every Wednesday at 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Shoppers are welcome to choose from our selection of donated clothing, free of charge, whenever the closet is open. We also have a selection of books (for both adults and kids), children’s toys, handbags and other accessories. Our selection may be limited based on supply. We are usually in need of men’s clothing, so your donation of menswear would be greatly appreciated. We also offer shower facilities, fresh underwear and socks, clean towels, deodorant, and other toiletries during this time. Volunteers come to sort and arrange clothing donations on Monday and Friday mornings. On Wednesdays, they welcome guests and take their names, or assist shoppers in our women’s and men’s areas. People also help by handing out clean towels and fresh undergarments. The Clothes Closet is a great chance to interact with our guests, learn a little about their personalities, and show people the dignity and respect everyone deserves.
