Fannie Mae Walks

For Elementary Schools, Middle Schools and Youth Groups:
Host a Fannie Mae Mini-walk for Shepherd's Table

Shepherd's Table's participates with the Fannie Mae Mini-Walk program to raise awareness about the critical problem of homelessness. We engage youth at a young age so that they understand that they, too, can help eradicate the problem of homelessness. Every action makes a difference.

Shepherd's Table's overall approach to all activities is one of inclusion. We welcome students of all races, religions, abilities and neighborhoods to join us. It takes a whole community to make a difference in our world.

Registration costs for the walks are set by Fannie Mae. We certainly need these registration fees to support our mission. However, we make it possible for all students to participate by providing scholarships to any child who is unable to pay. Every child and staff member who registers receives an official "Help the Homeless" t-shirt.

We come into every school and provide an educational opportunity tailoring our methods to the needs of the school and the students. Schools often tell us the just what approach they need and we certainly accommodate this. For example, some of our schools such as Highland View and Gage-Eckington DCPS held mini-walks during gym periods and their educational outreach during lunch period. Sligo Creek ES held a mini-Olympics during gym and built an educational component into the Olympics.

We love to do the educational outreach and join in the mini-walks at each school. We welcome opportunities to stay connected to the schools following mini-walks and the educational outreach. Through these connections, we continue to engage youth in the greater community. We also welcome opportunities to do whatever we can to support the amazing educational and outreach efforts of all the schools.
