“Spring Into Action”: Our First Virtual Fundraising Event

We’re having our first VIRTUAL event!
“Spring Into Action!” is on Saturday, May 9, 11 AM – NOON
To register: bit.ly/stspringintoaction

As you may already know, we have had to postpone our spring fundraising event “From Garden to Table” in order to protect the health and safety of our community against the current pandemic. While we are working on a new date for that, we are happy to invite you to join us in our very first virtual event, “Spring Into Action!” on Saturday, May 9, from 11 AM to Noon. Led by our Board of Directors, the event will help us bridge the gap in funding from the postponed spring fundraiser, as well as added costs due to Covid-19.

We are excited to share that The Embassy of the State of Qatarhas offered to match all donations up to $25,000. This means, your gift will be DOUBLED!

Our guest speaker, Jenny Brown, will share her experience and knowledge in starting your own garden – indoors or out. She is a Montgomery County Master Gardener and currently works as Audubon Naturalist Society’s Garden Programs Manager. Also joining us during the event, is Hannah Sholder, the Director of Land Stewardship and Farm Management from CKC Farming. She will lead a discussion in growing your own food as part of a local food economy. Later on, our chef Christina Moore will show you around the new urban garden at Shepherd’s Table, which was started as a small project with hopes to grow even more fresh produce for our meal services. The event will be hosted by Manny Hidalgo, our Executive Director, and Susan Collet, our Chair of the Board of Directors.

Our neighbor Brookside Gardens has also donated three door prizes! We will pick three random names of participants during the event and announce the winners at the end. The door prizes will be mailed to the winners!

The main purpose of the event is to help Shepherd’s Table continue meeting our community’s increased need for meals and essential services during this challenging time. We are now serving 350 meals a day, with increased demand and cost from converting our chef-prepared, hot healthy meals to fresh, hot, “to-go” meals. At the same time, our Resource Center is still open once every weekday to provide vital services for anyone in need, from checking mail, accessing toiletries and prescription medicines, among other services. For us to continue serving our community in the same reliable fashion as before, we rely on your help and support.

Your gift of any size is greatly appreciated, as it will be matched by The Embassy of the State of Qatar, up to $25,000!

While our Spring Fundraiser will now be in the Fall, this virtual event is a great way to help the growing fight against hunger and food insecurity in our community. Your support helps ensure that individuals and families experiencing homelessness and poverty are given a chance to thrive. Join us on Saturday, May 9, to support our mission. We hope to see you online!
